discussions about male models and the industry

Why do people in America associate "Male Models" with being gay?

I have met designers and photographers from other countries and when they saw "Apollo Male Models" they thought it was a magazine focusing on male models and the male modeling industry.

But when a person from America saw the magazine and looked at the name he immediately thought and asked if it was a gay magazine. At least some asked, most just assumed it's their right to label the magazine as a gay magazine. Is it because it has "Male Models" in the name?

Should I change the name to please them or educate them and get them out of the stereotyping gutter? And why do people from other continents don't think that? What do men's fashion, grooming, modeling, and health & fitness have to do with being gay or not?

It is a sickening dilemma. There is obviously something wrong with the fostering of ignorance in our (lack of) culture in the USA. We let casuality and redneck-ism overtake attitudes in fashion. Americans now don rags meant to play ball or rake yards for every occassion, where formality was once appropriate. Proper attire and general neatness to be a 'gay' thing. We even cultivate our women to look dumpy and available for lesbian fantasies. Men as sex objects? ... not so much. Anti-cultural powers have succeeded in the propoganda that Men are just weapons for war and thusly the degradation of the value of male fashion and grooming. Comments against male models is symptomatic of the downfall of a once promising culture.

Don't change for them!!!

Even with the recent media interest in our community, America is still very backward & homophobic.

We all just have to be ourselves and make our world a more beautiful and colorful place because of it.
